I thought it might be helpful to put up some acronyms since there are so many. Also, there are a lot of terms I may use a lot that I may or may not remember to explain.
CCSC- Catholic Charities Service Corps
USCIS- United States Citizenship and Immigration Services
UNHCR- United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
ESL- English as a Second Language
Refugee Resettlement- the way shorter version of Catholic Charities Immigration and Refugee Assistance
support people- people who are part of the larger CCSC community. Some of them are former CCSC members and some are not. They have us over for dinner, are there to help with conflict resolution if we need it, and meet with us for our monthly one-on-one meetings.
one-on-ones- monthly meetings where CCSC members meet with one support person and discuss how the month is going and how we're seeing the four pillars of CCSC play out in our lives that month. This is a time to reflect and get an outside perspective of someone who is still very familiar with CCSC.
the four pillars of CCSC- Social Justice, Community, Spirituality, and Simplicity
when I refer to my "community," I typically mean the three other people I live with and have intentional community with (we call this the "little c" and all of CCSC (including support people, the advisory board, etc) as the "big C")
